CPU: AMD A8-3850

It's quite amazing that you can buy a quad core CPU and a GPU, for a little over $100. A8-3850 is based on AMD's Llano line-up, which packs 4 CPU cores and a Radeon 6550D GPU on the same die. Other notable features include virtualisation and DirectX 11 support, the CPU is supposed to have decent headroom for overclocking as well.

Motherboard: Asus F1A75-M

Based on AMD A75 FCH (Hudson D3) chipset, the Asus F1A75-M micro-ATX motherboard is compatible with A and E-series APU's, and supports USB 3.0, SATA 6Gb/s, PCI Express 2.0 x 16 graphics. This motherboard offers four USB 3.0 ports, and supports a maximum of 64GB DDR3 memory. On the back you have D-SUB, DVI, HDMI, USB and S/PDIF Out ports.

The Corsair XMS3 is slightly more expensive than other brands, but not significantly so. We chose a 4GB DDR3 stick to ensure room for growth, the XMS3 has a CAS latency of 9 ms and supports memory speeds of upto 1600 MHz.

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12
