DON-2 Review: Shah Rukh Khan makes Don 2 work

FilmDon 2
Director: Farhan Akhtar
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani
Rating: ***
Story: Don ( Shah Rukh Khan) is back, with characteristic savior faire. This time he has a monumental heist plan where he wants to steal the currency plates of the Euro from a high security vault in Berlin and disappear into the horizon as a free bird. Does he succeed? Specially when there is a hot cop Roma ( Priyanka Chopra) doggedly chasing him.... a

Movie Review: Don 2 is a classic action/crime thriller that doesn't let go, even for a moment. More importantly, the plot has been finely crafted, with every twist and turn falling into place like a complicated albeit neat little jigsaw. With a canvas that goes on a cross-country ride -- Thailand, Malaysia, Zurich, Berlin -- the film challenges you to hop aboard its high speed scuttle and attentively follow the exploits of its glamorous gangster. One who oscillates between two avatars -- Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible) and James Bond -- without losing out on his desi charisma.

The high point of the film is Shah Rukh's delineation of the character of the Don. The actor interprets him as an arrogant, agile, wicked and wild dare-devil who has the most bizarre schemes up his sleeves. But that's not all. He also has the chutzpah to carry them through. Taking off from the climax of the first film, the gangster resurfaces in Thailand after a suitable time span, creates mayhem and then, in an unprecedented and inexplicable move, surrenders before his old enemies (cop Roma), only to be sent to a Malaysianprison. Get ready for a breath taking prison-break sequence, where our maverick escapes with another old foe, Vardhan ( Boman Irani). The rest of the film is essentially the execution of a meticulous plan where the duo chooses to rob the Germans of their currency plates. Easier said than done, but with the devious Don, rest assured, no mission is an impossible mission. Shah Rukh remains in command and never loses his foothold, neither through the dramatic sequences nor through the action cuts. But of course, didn't we know the actor always loved playing wicked despite his romantic hero image. Remember Darr and Baazigar, two of his unforgettable films?

Action is the other alluring selling point of Farhan Akhtar's film. The chases, the fights, the demolition, destruction, break-ins, escapes have all been done with a finesse that rivals the best of Hollywood. Watch the car chase between Priyanka and Shah Rukh and you'll get the point. It's not only high voltage that drips with passion which makes it seem almost like foreplay. The other notable sequences include the heist, the escape and Shah Rukh's larger-than-life leap from a high-rise while his assassin wrings his hands in dismay.

The film does lack a bit on the emotional quotient and human relationships are hardly given a chance to grow. But just when you think it's all sound and fury, there's a sensuous tango between Roma and the Don as the cop opts to help the gangster she once loved and the gangster is determined to save his junglee billi (wild cat), any which way. A word about the dialogues: brilliant. A word about the music: mediocre (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy).

Bhagavad Gita- Indian Song of human values with global appeal:

Bhagavad Gita- Indian Song of human values with global appeal: Wishesh Analysis
The Bhagavad Gita controversy, most unwanted issue, neglected by the union government and supported by a set of clergy fearing unforeseen competition has almost put a droplet of venom in the decades old milk of friendship between India and Russia. On several occasions statesmen from both the countries shared the same dais to share their common feelings on various issues and synchronized too.
Russian National Sergey S Avanesov in the City of Tomsk in Siberia had in June moved a motion in the Leninsky District Court asking for a ban on the third Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita as printed by International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
The controversy over the status of the 3,000- year old Scripture Bhagavad Gita, doubtless owes much to the gap in knowledge by interpretors. It is really pity that the Russian authorities have sent the book for examination to people who lack either the knowledge or the logics to assess background of circumstances about the book in depth. True these academicians hoard their supremacy in their own academic domains. And can scrutiny books pertaining to modern science, which proves its theory by empirical observations. But the Bhagavad Gita is a text of information given by higher forms of intelligence.
Earlier Russia expressed sadness over the development, saying it is “inadmissible” that a holy scripture is taken to court. But ISKON had been warning the union government about the clergy interference and about the controversy that might spring up eventually. Since the warning letter, India has had six of its ministers and top officials visit Russia, culminating in Manmohan Singh's own visit from December 15 to 17 for a bilateral summit with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. But still the issue persists, where or what do we lack in pulling up for a genuine case?
ISKON- Russia had come on the radar of the authorities in Moscow, during the communist rule. But the communists who always respected the worldly religious values did nothing to hurt our sentiments. In Russia, after the demise of the Communist state, it won’t be the authorities who would worry on the Gita but notables or followers of the local clergy, who might perceive competition.
For a few who have misinterpreted the holy book, have designed a venomous propaganda saying the book is `extremist literature.’ What a disgrace to the centuries old belief of the ancient civilization on this earth. The Indian government at least now woke up about the issue after tremendous uproar in both the houses by the one and all.
At last the External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said that the complaint seemed to be the handiwork of "some ignorant and misdirected or motivated individuals...While this complaint is patently absurd, we have treated this matter seriously and the Embassy of India (in Moscow) is closely monitoring this legal case." And the government asked the Russian government to drop case against a translation of the Bhagavad Gita.
"It is strange that such events are unfolding in the beautiful University City in Siberia, as Tomsk which is famous for its secularism and religious tolerance," Alexander M Kadakin, Russian Ambassador in India said in a statement. "The Russian authorities have been approached at high levels to appropriately resolve this matter," said Indian Ambassador to Russia Ajai Malhotra.
The final hearing on the issue is scheduled for December 28 in Siberia, as it agreed to seek the opinion of the Russian Ombudsman on Human Rights in Tomsk Region and of Indologists from Moscow and St Petersburg, all of whom favor dismissal of the case.
The ban on the book must be revoked and the book must be given a special status across the globe. The holy book has impressed and inspired many who hail from different backgrounds across the world.
Some interesting features that might interest the readers about the Holy Scripture are detailed below:
• The Mahabharata has no restrictions of qualification as to who can hear it or read it. Everyone regardless of caste or social position may hear or read it at any time. The original writer Vedavyasa has explained that the Mahabharata contains the essence of all the purports of the Vedas. This we see is true and it is also written in a very intriguing and dramatically narrative form. • Originally written in Sanskrit, the book has been translated into many languages. A few translations have been listed below. The first English edition of the Bhagavad-Gita was in 1785 by Charles Wilkins in London, England. This was only 174 years after the translation of the King James Bible in 1611. The Bhagavad-Gita was translated into Latin in 1823 by Schlegel. It was translated into German in 1826 by Von Humbolt. It was translated into French in 1846 by Lassens and it was translated into Greek in 1848 by Galanos. • Historically many, very extraordinary people such as Albert Einsten, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Herman Hesse, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Aldous Huxley, Rudolph Steiner and Nikola Tesla to name a few read this book. They were inspired by Srimad Bhagavad-Gita for its timeless wisdom. • In a gist the holy book details accurate, fundamental knowledge about God, the ultimate truth, creation, birth and death, the results of actions, the eternal soul, liberation and the purpose as well as the goal of human existence. • There are many hard examples of noted Russians who liked this philosophy from their heart and soul such as Prof. Nicholas K Roerich, and his family. This family lived nearby Darjeeling and later on established the Urusvati Research Institute in the Kullu Valley, where the family adopted the teaching of this Holy Book as a practical part of their life.

Rajanna Movie Review: 1ST ON NET:

Rajanna Review – Rajanna Movie Review, Rating, Telugu Movie: This film is touted to be the comeback film of director Vijayendra Prasad who made his debut as director with Arthangi in 1996. The film was made on the real life incidents in Telangana region during the Nizam rule. The movie is laced with sentiment, emotions and patriotism.Nagarjuna Akkineni produced the film on Annapurna Studios banner. Here is the review of Rajanna.

Banner: Annapurna Studios
Cast: Nagarjuna, Sneha, Baby Annie, Swetha Menon, Pradeep Rawat, Mukesh Rishi and others.
Music: MM Keeravani
Producer: Nagarjuna Akkineni
Director: Vijayendra Prasad.

Story:

The story of the film revolves around the central character Mallamma, an orphan girl who is being raised by an old man. The girl has a passion to sing and that has been strongly opposed by the Dorasani of the village as she feels that her songs have some intense emotion which can turn the entire village against her. But, poor girl couldn’t stop singing and as a result the dorasani kills the old man, locks the girl inside the house and set it ablaze. The girl escapes the mishap with the help of a music teacher and makes her way to Delhi to meet the then Prime Minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru to complain against the atrocities of dorasani. The rest of the movie is all about how the girl meets the Prime Minister and fulfills the villagers and Rajanna’s wish.

Analysis:

The movie opens and concludes with a voiceover from Akkineni Nageswara Rao. The first hour of the film is narrated well with heavy sentiment scenes. The introduction of Nagarjuna is a bit late and will be exactly 10 minutes before the interval. The film offers lot of human emotions, patriotism and sentiment which are depicted in a convincing manner. The plot of the film is interesting and laudable. The director could have done better home work at the end.

The second half of the film slowly picks up post interval and leaves a good impression. The power packed dialogues and action episodes are a treat to watch on screen. We can see the mark of Rajamouli in action episodes and couple of songs. Gijigaadu and Veyyi Ra Veyyi songs are the best songs of the film. The screenplay of the film is predictable and lacks the wow factor. The Telangana accent of Nagarjuna is good. Keeravani needs a special mention for his wonderful background score and soundtrack. Overall, the film is watchable for decent performances from the lead star cast.

Performance:

The role played by Nagarjuna as Rajanna is suave and powerful. His histrionics will surely amuse his fans after long time. Pradeep Rawat, Ajay, Nassar, Supreeth and ‘Sye’ Chotu are good in their roles. Sneha is adequate as Lachuvamma. Baby Annie as Mallamma is the show stealer of the film. Her stellar performance is the backbone of the film. Keeravani brings the soul to the film with his wonderful background score and songs. Swetha Menon has delivered her best in a negative role. Mukesh Rishi has a limited role to play. Telangana Sakuntala is just ok.

Technicalities:

The cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is excellent. Graphics are tawdry. This is undoubtedly one of the best works of Keeravani in recent times. The art director has done a brilliant job in bringing out the nativity factor during Nizam era. Editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is up to the mark. The director’s choice of script  is good but the execution part could have be better.

Final Word:

Watch the film for wonderful performances from Baby Annie, Nagarjuna and soulful music from Keeravani.

Rajanna Movie Rating: 3.5/5(RATING IS BASED ON PERFORMANCES OF CHARACTERS NOT ON THE MOVIE ,COZ. EPIC MOVIES CANT BE RATED)
