Along with physics, chemistry and biology, a background in biotechnology will now help you if you want to be a doctor.
The MCI recently relaxed rules and added biotechnology to the list of subjects needed to study medicine.
The decision was taken to help thousands of students who studied biotechnology — which is quite similar to biology — and keeping in mind its increasing importance in the field of medicine.
The Union Health Ministry has approved the proposal.
MCI's Prof Ranjit Chaudhury said the decision is significant "because of the increasing importance and relevance of biotechnology in the filed of medicine and therapeutics."
