Number of Seats in
IITs - Branch wise
seats in IITs
IITs are the best
institutes for
Engineering courses in
India. There has been
huge demand for
admissions into IITs
Thanks to their
excellent academic
environment and
placement record. Hence
the training for IIT JEE
has been highly
corporatised. The
number of seats have
been increased as the
new IITs have joined to
the old ones. Before
2008, there are 7 IITs in
the country. In 2008
Govt. of India has
started 6 New IITs in
various states. There
are proposls for two
more IITs to be
established in 2009 and
they were also started
functioning in
temporary campuses
recently.
Following are the total

available in various
IITs...
Traditional (Old) IITs:
IIT Bombay,
Maharastra: 746 seats
IIT Delhi: 721 seats
IIT Guwahati, Assam:
498 seats
IIT Kanpur, UP: 702
seats
IIT Kharagpur, West
Bengal: 1138 seats
IIT Madras, Tamilnadu:
713 seats
IIT Roorkee:1013 seats
Total seats in newly
Opened IITs in 2008

Orissa: 120 seats
IIT Gandhinagar,
