When you lose your phone while the ringer is turned off it (it is in silent mode) can be impossible to find it.

Where's My Droid(for Android)
The following App is available in the android market for free
After texting your phone a custom attention word the app turns the ringer volume up and makes your phone ring. It's also possible to get the GPS location of your phone in latitude and longitude and a link to Google maps.
The App does the following stuff:-
1.Find phone by making it ring/vibrate
2.Find phone using GPS location
3.Text or email your attention word
4.Passcode protection to prevent unauthorized app changes
Find My iPhone
If you lose your iPhone or iPad, you can find it with the Find my iPhone service, a free part of MobileMe.
Just enable Find My iPhone in the MobileMe settings on your iPhone or iPad. You can then track it via GPS or WiFi by signing in to http://me.com from any computer, or by using the Find My iPhone app on another iOS device.
You’ll see your device’s location on a map and you can choose to have it display a message or play a sound, remotely lock the device, or wipe it to permanently delete all of your data if you think that it won’t be returned. For added security, the app will automatically sign you out after 15 minutes, or you can manually sign out at any time.
